Staff Bios

Sheila Berger Chazin, LCSW, CASAC, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with a B.A in Psychology and a Masters degree in Social Work from Hunter College and is a New York State Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (C.A.S.A.C.).  Sheila is a founding member of Metropolitan Psychotherapy and Family Counseling Practice.  She originated and directed the Family Treatment Unit at Greenwich House Counseling Center, an outpatient program for mental health and addictions, where she provided  supervision and training in individual and family systems to clinicians.   During her professional career of over 30 years, Sheila has been a clinician, supervisor, trainer, presenter and consultant specializing in the treatment of addictions, mental health disorders, family and couples issues and trauma. She has extensive experience working with clients suffering from the effects of trauma, including complex trauma and PTSD and is a trained EMDR therapist. Sheila specializes in relationship issues and is a trained family therapist with extensive experience treating couples and families with a variety of presenting problems.  She currently offers a group on developing healthy relationships. In her work with individuals, couples and families she addresses a variety of presenting problems including: relationship issues, recovery from addictions, ADHD, anxiety, depression and trauma.  Sheila tailors her treatment to the unique needs of her clients, utilizing systems theory, cognitive behavioral techniques, EMDR, psychodynamic and supportive counseling in her treatment. Sheila has lectured and presented to organizations and professionals throughout the metropolitan area, as well as abroad, on topics that include: addiction and the family; identification and treatment of sexual/child abuse and domestic violence; suicide assessment, prevention and intervention; clinical practice skills; crisis intervention; and the treatment of complex trauma.  She has been featured on the radio as an expert clinician on couples’ relationship problems.

Nancy Green Waxman, LCSW, CASAC, holds a B.A. in Psychology from New York University, a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, and is a NY State Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (C.A.S.A.C.)  She has worked for more than 30 years in the addictions field as a therapist, supervisor, and clinical director.   While at Greenwich House Counseling Center, she created and directed an intensive outpatient program and provided supervision in individual and group psychotherapy for the professional staff.    Ms. Waxman left the Counseling Center in 2002  for private practice and cofounded Metropolitan Psychotherapy and Family Counseling in 2003.   Since then, she has had a special interest and expertise in working with adolescents, young adults, and their families. One service she offers is a bi-weekly supportive psychotherapy group for parents whose adolescents have issues including substance abuse, ADHD, anxiety, adoption, and family problems. She also works closely with several psychiatrists, psychologists, learning specialists, and educational consultants.   Her individual adult clients have a wide variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, or relationship issues.    Nancy also provides ongoing supervision and  presentations to clinicians, schools, and parents on a variety of topics related to Parenting, Adhd and Substance abuse.

Dru Orenstein, LCSW, Psychoanalyst, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Psychoanalyst. He is one of the original founding members of Metropolitan Psychotherapy and Family Counseling Practice (MPFC) His B.A. in Psychology is from Fordham University.  Dru earned a Master's degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University's Ferkauf School of Social Work.   Dru completed Post Graduate training in Psychoanalysis at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis, where he is a senior member, Training Analyst, and Supervisor.   In addition to twenty-five years of private psychotherapy practice with individuals and couples suffering from a wide variety of problems and concerns, Dru was a clinician for twenty five years at Greenwich House Counseling Center,  doing work with individuals, couples, and groups focusing on problems of addictions.   Dru also had been a clinician at The Family Life Clinic where much of his work focused on treatment of sexual abuse, sex addiction, and issues related to child abuse. Special areas of experience are: the treatment of sexual compulsion, unique issues related to all members of the Adoption Triad (adoptee, adoptive parents, and biological parents), as well as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender concerns.

Jodi Rubin, ACSW, LCSW graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from SUNY at New Paltz and earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at New York University. Her work began with a focus on working with children, adolescents and families and then on addictions while at Greenwich House Counseling Center. A longstanding steady passion shifted Jodi into her current specialty in eating disorders. In addition to over a decade of work as an LCSW with individuals, families and groups in her private practice, Jodi is a former director of Day Treatment at The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders and a founding member of Metropolitan Psychotherapy and Family Counseling Practice. She is the creator of a curriculum on Eating Disorders for the Graduate School of Social Work at New York University and has been teaching this course, as well as guest lecturing in the NYU Post-Master's Program, for the past many years. Jodi actively lectures and teaches students, families and professionals throughout the metropolitan area about the etiology, prevention, treatment, assessment and work with eating disorders. Through psychotherapy and supportive work with adolescents, adults and families, Jodi works to create a secure sense of self, increased self-esteem and a healthy relationship with self and others. She works with an eclectic person-centered approach and tailors her practice techniques to the unique needs of each individual.

Linda Soloway Martinez, LCSW is a founding member of MPFC. For over 30 years, Linda has been committed to learning personally and professionally in the field of human growth and transformation.  She completed her Masters in Social Work in 1978 and Post Masters three year Certificate in Family Therapy in 1990, both at Hunter School of Social Work. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with fifteen years of experience working with individuals, couples and families in outpatient treatment of substance abuse.  Since the early '90's, Linda has focused on how psychotherapy is enhanced by Yoga, Buddhism and Mindfulness along with the current neuro-science of the brain.  Linda received certification in EMDR in '02 and Somatic Experiencing in '09.  She continues advanced studies in healing the effects of childhood and adult stress and trauma trapped in the body memory. Helping the nervous system to regulate leads to healing with minimum retraumatization. Linda attended training with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine in 1998. She is an Integral Yoga Teacher with certifications in Gentle Yoga and Yoga for Cancer and Cardiac.
